A muddy walk up a hill turns into a small, courtly compliment paid to a passing "pretty Miss." The half-crown-a-day line is a sweet, old-fashioned way of saying someone is worth spoiling. Gentle and short, with a curtsy in the middle.
From Mother Goose / Nursery Rhymes (traditional). See the whole collection.
As I was going up Pippen Hill,
Pippen Hill was dirty;
There I met a pretty Miss,
And she dropped me a curtsy.
Little Miss, pretty Miss,
Blessings light upon you;
If I had half-a-crown a day,
I'd spend it all upon you.
