Johnny Gruelle Children’s Books
Johnny Gruelle was an American illustrator and cartoonist who created Raggedy Ann. The rag doll belonged to his young daughter Marcella, and he wrote stories to go with it, gathered in Raggedy Ann Stories in 1918. The books grew out of tales told at home, which is part of why they suit reading aloud.
