Johann David Wyss Children’s Books

Johann David Wyss was a Swiss pastor, born in Bern in 1743. He made up The Swiss Family Robinson to entertain and teach his own sons, telling of a shipwrecked family who build a new life on a desert island. His son Johann Rudolf Wyss gathered and edited the stories, and saw them into print in 1812.
