Anna Sewell Children’s Books

Anna Sewell was an English writer, born in Norfolk in 1820. She wrote only one book, Black Beauty, published in 1877, telling a horse's life story in the horse's own voice. She was in poor health for much of her life and cared deeply about the kind treatment of horses, which is the heart of the book. She died a few months after it appeared.
